* A feature on Arnold Arre & Milkyboy in Adobo Magazine’s Oct.2013 issue

Before I even started working in the comics field, I worked in advertising. This was right after graduating from college and even now, years later, I still remember working late nights and rushing to meet impossible deadlines. I touched on some of those aspects of ad agency life in Milkyboy and infused it with my impressions and a few personal statements about the industry. Right in the center of all of it is the story of a 30-something male who was once a popular child star / product endorser for a milk brand who grew up to be the complete opposite of the “wonder kid” he once portrayed.

This is my first animated short film, my longest one to date (it’s a little under 20 minutes long), and my first attempt at animating dialogue. It took 5 months to complete — you can read my production notes here.

I do hope you enjoy it. :)

Rey played a superhero character called ‘Milkyboy’ in a milk commercial as a child in the 1980s. Fast forward 25 years, he is now working in a declining advertising company with no bright future — nor love life — to speak of. He also can’t seem to break free from the stigma of being a former child star. Can Rey overcome his inner demons and prove his worth to everyone, including himself?

Here’s a 1-minute teaser (with English subtitles):

Voice Cast:
Rey – Mihk Vergara
Jenny – Yvette Tan
Melissa / Girl Officemate – Denise Mallabo
Jun – Chris Costello
Fred / Guy Officemate – Miguel Nacianceno
80s TV host / Tony – RJ Ledesma
TV Commercial Mom – Gang Badoy

Also featuring the voices of Cynthia Arre, Calvin Bauzon, Evangeline Bauzon, and Gian Arre
